IO-Link

Signalling and lighting – controlled from your PLC IO-Link connects our signal lights bidirectionally to your control system: brightness, signal colour and flashing frequency can be set during operation, real-time diagnostics included. Connection is made via a three-wire sensor cable and an IO-Link master.

IO-Link: communication standard of today and the future

IO-Link is a manufacturer-independent communication technology for connecting sensors and actuators to higher-level control systems in automation. It enables bidirectional communication between the field level and control systems such as a programmable logic controller (PLC) – overcoming the weaknesses of fieldbus or parallel installations. Within such an installation, an LED luminaire with IO-Link becomes an actuator: it reports parameters back and executes commands from the control system.

Benefits of IO-Link-enabled LED luminaires from LED2WORK

Intelligent control and configuration
The integrated IO-Link board allows adjustment of brightness, switching from white light to signal colours, RGB colour changes, flashing frequency and further parameters.

Easy integration
Lighting and signals are configured and controlled via the higher-level control system – machine tool controls included, provided the IO-Link master is compatible.

Diagnostic capability
Extensive diagnostics reveal problems or failures in real time, significantly simplifying maintenance and troubleshooting.

Parameter changes during operation
Parameters can be changed while the process is running. Replacing a luminaire during operation is equally straightforward.

Reduced installation effort
Standard connectors and cabling are sufficient: the minimum requirement is a three-wire sensor cable carrying both communication and power.

High flexibility and scalability
The number of connected luminaires can be expanded or reduced without major changes to wiring or configuration.

Energy efficient
Precise control adjusts brightness and operating status exactly to demand – increasing the already high efficiency even further.

What is required for the installation?

To operate our IO-Link-enabled LED luminaires, at least the following components are required:

LED luminaire with IO-Link
e.g. DOMELED IO-Link or TUBELED_25 RGB-W IO-Link. Within the installation the luminaire is the actuator.

IO-Link master
The interface – the “interpreter” – between luminaire and control system. If ports run short, an IO-Link hub adds more.

Connection cable
The minimum is a three-core sensor cable; as a guideline it should not exceed 20 m per connected device.

Power supply
Typically 24 V DC at the IO-Link master; the luminaire is then powered by the master.

Control system
A PLC or distributed control system (DCS) processes the data and parameterises the connected devices.

Configuration tool
Hardware- or software-based, usually supplied with the IO-Link master. Newer controls already include one.

Infrastructure
Cable trays and mounting devices for the safe installation of luminaire and master.
